Bulldogs Baseball District III Champions

On Tuesday night Boiling Springs baseball had two opportunities to win the 5A District III championship but it only took them one as they defeated TL Hanna 6-1 to advance to the 5A Upper State tournament. “It’s so tough just to get to the Upper State,” said Bulldogs head coach Jeff Lipscomb, “We’re thrilled to be here, these guys have fought hard all year and we’re going to try and keep it going.”

The Bulldogs pitching staff finished the District round of the playoffs not allowing an earned run, a feat that was finished on Tuesday night by pitcher Adam Leiszler. Leiszler, who threw a complete game, only allowed three hits on Tuesday night with the one run that scored coming on an error. “That was an outstanding performance by Adam, he just does his thing every time he goes to the mound,” said Coach Lipscomb, “He’s not going to out power you but when you can locate three pitches like he does you’re always going to have a chance to win.”

While the Bulldogs got another outstanding performance from the mound, it was the person who catches all those pitches that helped spark the Boiling Springs offense on Tuesday. With the Bulldogs leading 2-0 in the fifth inning it was catcher John Michael Faile who really put distance between Boiling Springs and TL Hanna as he hit a three run homer to right center field bringing in Will Greer and Adam Pucetas to give the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead. Faile who led the state this year in batting average at .519 and runs-batted-in with 45 has been a key to the Bulldogs offense all season. “It feels pretty good to have a bat like that in your lineup. He’s had one of those years you don’t see very often.” said Coach Lipscomb. When asked about his homer after the game Faile said, “It’s great to get the win and be able to move on to Upper State. I knew when I hit the ball it had a shot and it was a relief when I saw it go over the fence.”

The Bulldogs will look to keep the momentum rolling as they head into the 5A Upper State tournament and travel to District IV champions Northwestern on Thursday night. Northwestern, who loss their first game on Tuesday night, defeated JL Mann in the second game of the District IV playoffs to advance to the Upper State tournament.
